Spring at The Forest
Spring is a time of spectacular change at the Forest. All around us
trees and shrubs stir into life, each with their own magical sequence
of awakening to the new season. Buds swell and break open and within
days lush foliage breaks out.
In every corner a drama is played out as sap is
transmuted into blossom and leaf and each species of plant produces its
heriditary sequence of seed-producing cones and fronds.

The Quince shrub that sits by the house was the first to produce
stunning colour in early March. The display of blossom lasted at least
6 weeks. A fine crop of quinces is promised for the autumn
Just by our gate, these catkins seemed born of a cross between sea anemones and fire-works.
In this drama, light is everything and every tree craves the sunlight that guarantees its survival for another year.

Beech leaves reach out and welcome the morning sun.
